Zhambyl Humanitarian Higher College named after Abay, whose glorious history begins in October 1920, has deep roots.
It is deeply symbolic that the 100th anniversary of the college coincided with the 175th anniversary of the Great Abai. Our college is one of the first educational institutions that prepares the noblest profession - elementary school teachers.
Having crossed the threshold of the 21st century, making plans for the coming and more distant years, we step by step look back at the 100-year path passed by the college.
1920 is an important milestone in the history of the Kazakh people, when the Kazakh Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was created. The young national republic needed not only literate people, but also those who could teach others literacy and a new life.
The materials of the Central State Archive contain the following information: The Regional Kyrgyz Pedagogical School was opened by the Syr-Darya Oblast on October 1, 1920 in the city of Shimkent.
Our college began with a two-story building of the former higher primary school on the street. Pushkinskaya 10, which consisted of two rooms for classes and a boarding school; both buildings were located on the same yard. The school started with 100 students, and then an additional class for 25 people was opened.
During the period from 1920 to 2020, thousands of graduates with pedagogical education were trained. This academic year, 917 students are enrolled. At the full-time department 873. There are 44 students at the correspondence department.
The first issue was made in 1926. Among the first graduates were now well-known scientists, Doctor of Philology, Professor Maulen Balakaev, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Tolegen Tazhibaev. The school started with 12 teachers, and today it employs 176 teachers.
On August 1, 1921, the school was transformed into a pedagogical college. After 9 years, the pedagogical college was transferred from the city of Shimkent to the city of Aulie-Ata.
The first director of the technical school was Segizbai Aizunov. In 1926-1929, the technical school was headed by a well-known writer, a major public figure Zhusipbek Aimautov. Over the years, masters of their craft, directors Sherim Ermanov, Idris Sagintayev, Dostay Eselbaev and others led the pedagogical college. In the education system of Kazakhstan, the Zhambyl Pedagogical College will forever remain the oldest forge of national qualified personnel in the Southern region for an industry of strategic importance in the life of our country - public education. The Pedagogical College began to supply the country with specialists for primary schools. Over time, the level of training of specialists has significantly increased, a whole tradition of training and education of future teachers has arisen.
In the first years, the training period lasted 5 years, since 1930 the training program was changed to 3 years, and a correspondence form of education was opened. On the eve of the Great Patriotic War Russian classes were opened.
In 1940, the profile of the educational institution was determined, the name was changed. Since that time, it has been called the Zhambyl Pedagogical College, the only educational institution in Kazakhstan that trains primary school teachers for Kazakh and Russian schools.
Since 1946, the school has been named after the great Abay .In the post-war years, the need for specialized teaching staff in schools increased sharply, so the number of students enrolled in the correspondence department increased.
For 100 years, a long, significant path has been traveled. Well-known teachers, public figures of the Kazakh people gave lessons within the walls of our school. Among them: the first railway engineer in Kazakhstan, historian Mukhamedzhan Tynyshbaev (1921-1922), well-known literary scholar-scientist Mukhamedzhan Karataev, candidate of pedagogical sciences A. Mamashev etc.
The names of our graduates and their achievements are known in Kazakhstan and abroad. They became prominent scientists, well-known figures in state and party organs, prominent leaders of scientific research, higher and secondary specialized educational institutions. These are: doctor of philological sciences, professor M. Balakaev, doctor of historical sciences, professor N. Kiikbaev,poet S. Maulenov, writer A. Khankeldin, Hero of Socialist Labor Sh. Ermanov, well-known public figure, journalist Argynbai Bekbosyn, doctor of pedagogical sciences L. Bayserkeev, doctor of philological sciences, prof. Zhangara Dadebaev, holder of the title "Enbek Yeri", holder of the medal of Y. Altynsarin Ayagul Mirazova, doctor of historical sciences, professor Tuyakbay Rysbekov, famous poet Shyryn Mamaserikova, director of the state farm A. Zhanbolatov, etc.
In 1995, the Zhambyl Pedagogical College named after Abai was renamed into the Zhambyl Pedagogical College named after Abai. Since January 1997, it has been called the Zhambyl Humanitarian College named after Abai.
Today, the Zhambyl Humanitarian Higher College named after Abay is an educational institution that meets modern educational standards, which trains high-quality competitive specialists - teachers.

The college is a five-story building with a library with a book fund of 94,637 books, 1 reading room, 1 electronic room, 2 subscription rooms, 10 computer rooms, 1 multimedia-linguistic room, 6 rooms with an interactive whiteboard, a gym, 118 rooms, laboratories.
Classes are conducted for full-time and part-time education in three languages (kaz.russ.eng.), in 11 specialties. There are 13 PCCs, a scientific and methodological center, a museum equipped with valuable video and photo documents, an exhibition hall where you can see high-quality and branded works of teachers and students.
Today, the Zhambyl Humanitarian Higher College named after Abai is an educational institution with a strong material and technical base, which has taken a strong place among other educational institutions for the training of high-quality specialists.
